February 2015 Entries

Some 2015 housekeeping

The short working months of December and January make it really easy to fall behind on things such as blogging. We’ve had a few updates worth writing about between December and now, so here's a quick update from the world of Ignition Development.

Towards the end of last year we finally got around to becoming a Microsoft Certified partner (Silver Application Development for now, maybe some gold in the future? Who knows!). Thanks to Tracey and Jan for smashing an exam each, and to our customers who allowed us to use them as references. We actually finalised the requirements in October, however it took a wee while for the cogs of the great machine that is the Microsoft Partner portal to recognise our achievement.

On the subject of exams, since sitting exam 70-480 (Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3) last year Tracey has also sat and passed exam 70-486 (Developing ASP.NET MVC Web Applications) meaning she's well on her way to becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Developer.

Finally, last week we released an updated version of our website. It's the first update that the site has had in quite a few years, and we're really happy with how it's looking (and would love to know what you think of it too - let us know!).

While the visual aspects of the site are noticeably different, it was the act of refining the site's content that felt like it took the most time. It seems the previous author (me) liked to write rather large walls of text where a short paragraph would achieve the same goal.

This was the first time in a while that we've put so much time into refining our own content and also where we've finalised all of the content before applying the design, and I'm planning to write a future blog post about it as it was a really interesting exercise (no really, it was!). We're often chasing up our customers to get them to write content, and going through this was a refreshing reminder to be empathetic to the fact that it can take a lot of work as well as time to go through the iterations required.

So if Microsoft Certified Partners with shiny new websites are what you're looking for right now, why not drop us a line?
